Faculty of Languages

Introduction to faculty

The Languages Faculty comprises of Welsh and MFL. Languages are an active faculty who have worked hard to provide excellent learning experiences for all pupils every lesson, every day. We pride ourselves on our use of ICT to enhance lessons and pupil engagement.

We are also working hard to develop languages outside of the classroom with a comprehensive extra-curricular programme of events such as clubs, trips abroad, partnership working with the Urdd through the Cymraeg Bob Dydd Scheme, Siarter Iaith in conjunction with CSC – Cymraeg Campus and much more.

Lower School Overview

All pupils in lower school are taught Welsh and Spanish by their class teacher. Faculty staff also have teaching hours across lower school to support learning and provide specialist support.

Middle School Overview

Our new middle school curriculum has also been developed to incorporate a triple literacy approach which means that all pupils have MFL and Welsh lessons that follow the triple literacy approach on rotation. This means that language is consolidated and pupils use their knowledge of one language to strengthen their skills across the other languages. This is very exciting and pupils are flourishing, whist enjoying the new challenges that this brings.

Upper School Overview

Pupils receive Spanish lessons in Upper School on a carousel rotation. They learn about Spanish culture and develop the language skills associated with the world of work.

Pupils begin their Welsh GCSE course in year 9. Examinations are sat in years 10 and 11.
